Seun Kuti has raised concerns about the sources of wealth among some musicians in the industry.
In an Instagram Live session, Kuti expressed doubt about the financial success of certain artists, suggesting that their wealth likely doesn’t come solely from music.
He pointed out that, despite touring for over 20 years, he is only now building his first house, while some artists with only a couple of hit songs seem to be much wealthier.
Kuti remarked: “I have been touring for over 20 years, and I’m only just building my first house. Where is the music money coming from? Musician never get two songs, he don buy Lamborghini and G-wagon. Where’s this music money coming from?”
According to recent reports, more Nigerian musicians have recently been boasting about the profitability of the industry.
Rapper Shallipopi mentioned that financial success in music comes after producing several hit songs, while singer Portable also claimed that the music industry brings in more money than rituals, fraud, or even football.
