Comedian Afamefuna Igwemba is widely known for his iconic “Klint the Drunk” persona, but in real life, he does not drink alcohol at all.
The character, he explained, was inspired by a drunken caretaker from his childhood, whose exaggerated movements and speech always made people laugh. “I started mimicking him as a child, and it became a hit at school and in my community,” Klint said.
Over time, he refined the act into the stage persona fans now know, using the “drunk” character to highlight truths humorously and entertain audiences.
Interestingly, despite the character’s name and antics, Klint discovered he is allergic to alcohol. “Whenever I tried drinking, I would fall sick for days,” he revealed. He even struggled with smoking at one point but eventually quit entirely.
Klint emphasized that his comedy persona allows him to exaggerate observations and social truths without actually partaking in the habits he portrays. “I make the character, but the character doesn’t make me,” he said. The “drunk” act, he added, gives him creative freedom to explore humor in ways that resonate with audiences while remaining fully sober in his personal life.
The character has become a tool for storytelling and satire, letting him address societal issues, cultural quirks, and human behavior—all through the lens of someone who appears carefree and uninhibited, yet is very much in control behind the scenes.
