Billionaire businessman and philanthropist Tony Elumelu has opened up about the role luck played in his rise to success
He said hard work and intelligence alone are not enough to guarantee achievement.
Speaking in an interview with Korty EO, the chairman of Heirs Holdings reflected on his journey in business, explaining that success is often influenced by factors beyond a person’s abilities.
According to Elumelu, being the smartest, strongest, or most hardworking person does not always translate to success, as timing, opportunities, and favourable circumstances can significantly shape outcomes.
The entrepreneur described himself as someone who benefited from fortunate opportunities, stressing that luck, combined with preparation and determination, helped him build his career.
“At times you don’t come out successful because you are the best in class or because you’re the fittest or most energetic; sometimes you need luck and I’m a product of luck,” he said.
