Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has undergone successful surgery after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon while on international duty.
The 24-year-old picked up the injury during a training session in Lisbon ahead of Nigeria’s friendly against Portugal in June. He was ruled out of the game immediately, and scans later confirmed a tear in his left Achilles tendon.
He has since returned to Prague, where he had surgery at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice. His club, Slavia Prague, confirmed the operation went well and there were no complications.
Ogbu has already started his recovery and rehabilitation process, but he’s expected to be out for about three months. That means he’ll miss the early part of the new season for both club and country.
It’s a tough blow for the Super Eagles as well, with Ogbu having been part of recent call-ups and gradually building his place in the team. Slavia Prague will also have to cope without him as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
For now, the focus is on recovery, with hopes that he’ll be back fully fit later in the year.
