John Legend, the award-winning American singer, has spoken out about his former friend Kanye West, offering his perspective on the rapper’s mental health and public behavior.
Kanye West has recently spoken about being autistic and claimed he was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, prompting renewed conversations about how mental health may influence his actions and controversial remarks.
In an interview with The Times, John Legend reflected on Kanye’s apparent decline over the years, particularly following the death of his mother in 2007.
“It does feel sad, sometimes shocking, to see where he [Kanye West] is now… I didn’t see a hint of what we are seeing now, his obsessions with antisemitism, anti-blackness, and it is sad to see his devolution,” Legend said.
He continued, “But, I don’t think we are qualified to psychoanalyse him, but after his mother passed in 2007 there was definitely a difference. His descent started then and seems to have accelerated recently.”
