I always speak to my daughter before I play any match – Victor Osimhen

Super Eagles and Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen, has revealed that he always speaks to his daughter to draw inspiration before playing a match.

When asked who the last person he calls before a match is, Osimhen said on Sunday, November 17 to Complete Sports ;

“My daughter,” though he refrained from revealing her name.

“My daughter, of course,” he said. “I also speak with her mum – my wife. Most of the time, we pray together before I head into a game. But for sure, I must speak with my daughter, hear her voice, and then I’m good to go. They are my strength.”

Osimhen also expressed his joy over the Super Eagles securing qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a game to spare.

“It feels good. It gives one some kind of relief, you know. We deserve to be there in Morocco 2025. For me, it’s a big congratulations to the entire team and massive credit to the coach, the staff, and everyone associated with the Super Eagles. I think we all deserve it. A big thank you to all Nigerians who have been supporting us right from the start of the qualifiers,” Osimhen stated.

“Now, we have the final game on Monday, and we want to end on a high note by securing a convincing win in front of our fans before returning to our clubs. Then, we’ll come back to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers.”

“When we started, it was a bit shaky, but now we’ve identified our weaknesses and where we need to improve. The coach has been addressing these issues during team meetings.

“Against Rwanda, we want to win convincingly in front of our fans. After that, we’ll focus on preparing for the World Cup qualifiers next year. Our goal is to win every game and secure the ticket to the 2026 World Cup.”

The 25-year-old also shared the secret behind his remarkable ability to score goals with his head.

“I’m used to it. Growing up, I learned these attributes from senior players. Many were great with their feet, while some excelled with their heads. I studied and worked on both aspects, and I think I’ve done well so far.”
