Former Big Brother Naija housemate Hermes Chibueze Iyele has revealed how his late mother left them and his siblings when his dad lost his job.
During an emotional interview on WithChude, Hermes shared that his father worked with UNICEF and travelled extensively, but later fell on hard times and became a commercial bus driver. The family’s financial struggles eventually forced them to live in an unfinished building — a turning point that led to his mother’s departure.
“When things got bad, we moved into an uncompleted building. My mum didn’t want to come with us, so she left that night and didn’t return for seven years,” he recalled.
Despite the long absence, Hermes said he holds no grudge. He credited his father for raising him and his siblings with immense love, which shaped how he continues to view his mother.
“My dad raised us with love, and that’s why I still have love for my mum today. Their marriage wasn’t happy, and maybe she just did what she had to do,” he said.
Hermes added that he doesn’t fully understand why his father’s fortunes declined but suspects mismanagement may have played a role. Still, he prefers not to dwell on what went wrong.
The dancer and reality star previously spoke about the emotional toll of his mother’s absence during his childhood. She passed away in November 2024.
