Herve Renard has returned for a second spell as head coach of Ivory Coast, 11 years after guiding the Elephants to Africa Cup of Nations glory
The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) confirmed the Frenchman’s appointment after deciding not to renew the contract of Emerse Fae, whose deal expired on July 31.
Fae famously led Ivory Coast to the 2024 AFCON title after taking charge midway through the tournament.
He also guided the team to the knockout stage of this year’s FIFA World Cup, where they were eliminated in the round of 32 following a 2-1 defeat to Norway. The Ivorians had advanced from Group E as runners-up behind Germany on goal difference.
Renard previously managed Ivory Coast between 2014 and 2015, overseeing 18 matches. During that period, he recorded nine wins, five draws and four defeats before departing shortly after leading the team to victory over Ghana on penalties in the 2015 AFCON final.
