Heartbreak influenced my Tattoo – Tiwa Savage

Singer, Tiwa Savage has shared the story behind her tattoo, revealing that it was inspired by the pain of a heartbreak

To get the tattoo, Tiwa flew in a tattoo artist from Los Angeles to her home in Lagos, preferring the comfort and privacy of her own space to a public tattoo parlor.

The session was intense, with the artist expressing concern as blood flowed during the process.

Tiwa explained that the tattoo was her way of coping with the emotional pain, saying she wanted to “scream” through art.

She reflected on the past two years as a challenging time, but expressed gratitude for escaping a toxic relationship.

“I flew in my tattoo artist from LA to Nigeria. And I did it [the tattoo] in my room. So I was in an environment where I was comfortable. When you are in a tattoo parlour sometimes, a lot of people are working and then you are going through that pain. I wanted to make sure that I was in a comfortable place.

Tiwa said:

“My tattoo artist walked in and was like, ‘What are you doing?… Is that going to come off?’ He he started tattoo my body, there was blood everywhere. So he was more concerned for me like, ‘What are you trying to do?’

“I did that [the tattoo] from the pain I felt from a heartbreak. I just wanted to do something to scream,” she explained.

Savage added, “Last two years was a very hard time. The relationship I experienced was crazy. I’m so happy I’m out of that relationship.”
