Grammy-winning country folk singer John Prine has died at the age of 73 from coronavirus. The singer, who was one of the most influential songwriters of his generation, died on Tuesday after a short battle with the virus. Prine was hospitalized on March 26 suffering from symptoms of COVID-19. He died Tuesday from complications caused by the infection at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, his family confirmed. Prine was well-known for writing his early songs in his head while delivering mail, before he later emerged from Chicago’s folk revival scene in the 1970s to become one of the most revered songwriters of the era. He went on to win four Grammy Awards throughout his career. His death comes just over a week after his wife Fiona Whelan Prine told his fans on social media that the star was in a stable condition after being hospitalized with symptoms of coronavirus.
