His track record includes qualifying South Africa for the 2002 World Cup and taking Portugal to the Round of 16 in 2010, alongside multiple tournament appearances with Iran.
Beyond the international stage, his experience as a former manager of Real Madrid and a long-serving assistant at Manchester United is seen as a vital asset for a Ghanaian side looking to make a deep run in the upcoming global showpiece.
The appointment comes as the Black Stars finalize their preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which is scheduled to kick off on June 11, 2026.
