Chelsea legend, John Terry has named four central defenders—both past and present—whom he considers the greatest in Premier League history.
In an interview with SportBible, the former England captain was asked to select his “Mount Rushmore” of Premier League defenders. Unsurprisingly, Terry included himself among the elite group.
Terry named Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand, praising his consistency at the highest level and his numerous achievements over the years.
“I’m going to go with Rio,” Terry said. “I think longevity, playing at the top clubs, competing in major competitions year after year, and winning trophies consistently—he had everything. For me, Rio’s 100% in the conversation.”
The Chelsea great also included Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and Arsenal legend Tony Adams in his top four.
Terry, Ferdinand, Van Dijk, and Adams are widely regarded as some of the finest defenders the league has ever seen, each leaving a significant mark on their respective clubs and on English football as a whole.
