Eagles’ AFCON 2025 squad can compete with any team in the World – Former footballer, Friday Ekpo

Former Nigerian international Friday Ekpo has expressed confidence that the current Super Eagles squad that claimed bronze at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is capable of competing with any team in the world.

Nigeria finished third at AFCON 2025 after defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties in the third-place match, marking a strong end to the tournament for the three-time African champions.
Speaking with Completesports.com, Ekpo praised the team’s overall display, highlighting their impressive movement and transition of play throughout the competition.

“The AFCON 2025 brought out the best from the Super Eagles, as their movement and transition of play were exceptional,” Ekpo said.

He noted that aside from the semi-final defeat to Morocco, which ended in a penalty shootout loss, he was impressed by the Eagles’ performances in all their matches.

Ekpo also singled out the attacking trio of Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, stating that their pace, movement and goal-scoring ability caused serious problems for opposing defenders.

“The Super Eagles’ attack gave me great joy because Lookman, Osimhen and Akor scored brilliant goals at the tournament,” he added.

“There is no doubt that the current Eagles can compete with any team in the world.”
