Dunsin Oyekan recalls leading worship at late wife’s funeral

Gospel singer Dunsin Oyekan has shared a deeply personal account of how worship helped him cope after the death of his wife, revealing that he attended her burial with his guitar and led songs despite his grief.

Speaking about the painful moment, he described choosing worship even in the midst of sorrow and the emotional weight of the day.

“We were at the buri@l, I made sure I went with my guitar. I can never forget the people who were with me.

That morning we went, we started singing, I was leading worship and praising God. As they said I should pay my last rite aid pour the sand, I carried my guitar and sang God you are so good to me, that was the song coming out from my spirit.

People were crying, I was crying too, my voice was shaking but I was still singing and I ended with Hallelujah that’s what my song will be. Does it look like it? No.

Because I knew if I did not handle this pain well it’s either I go down or I go up and talk about somebody I loved.

We started from 200 level, same course. But I choosed worship. People’s advice and comfort was not entering my head, I said oh is this was people go through.

There are songs that are not released that I got during those period. You are wonderful Jesus.”

He explained that music and worship became his emotional anchor during the grieving process, helping him process loss while continuing his spiritual expression.
