Nigerian actor Daniel Etim Effiong has shared a deeply personal story about his family, shedding light on a difficult period during Nigeria’s military rule.
In a recent interview, the actor revealed that his father was once sentenced to death during the regime of former military leader Ibrahim Babangida. According to him, the situation stemmed from allegations linking his father to a coup attempt in the late 1980s.
Speaking candidly, he said:
“My father was in prison for 8 years. He was arrested for complicity in trying to overthrow the government of President Ibrahim Babangida in a coup. My father was sentenced to death by firing squad… but his sentence was reduced to life imprisonment.”
