Cynthia Morgan issues music contract warning

Nigerian singer Cynthia Morgan, has advised artists against signing away ownership of their music masters to record labels in perpetuity.

The singer shared the warning in a public statement, urging musicians to prioritize knowledge and legal counsel before entering into contractual agreements.

“Dear artiste, no amount of money, ignorance or desperation should make you sign your masters to a label in perpetuity. If you must make art, continuous knowledge and an entertainment lawyer should be your best friend,” she wrote.

Morgan stressed the importance of understanding the terms of  music contracts, particularly those relating to ownership rights, before signing any deal.

Cynthia Morgan’s message is a clear reminder to artists to think long term before signing record deals. In an industry where ownership often determines future earnings and control, her warning reinforces the importance of caution, understanding contracts, and seeking proper legal guidance before making commitments that could shape an artist’s entire career.
