ChaCha Eke’s husband opens up about living with a mentally ill partner

Austin Eke, husband of Nollywood actress Chacha Eke, has shared his experience of living with a partner who has a mental illness.

Chacha Eke discussed her experience of a manic episode when she wandered the streets, hotels, and beaches of Lagos for days a few months ago.

During a programme, Austin Eke was asked about how he managed to cope with a partner who has a mental illness.

He said that he couldn’t quite put into words how he coped, but initially sought help from churches before he found a doctor who assisted in resolving the situation.

Austin said: “My wife woke me up with a bang on the mirror at 1am, she said there were people crippling out of the mirror and she had to wake up to break it. I don’t joke with my religion and that’s why we went to various pastors and one even asked me to kill a ram which I did.

“I didn’t even eat out of it. I genuinely can’t explain how it feels to living with a mentally ill person but I am glad things are good now. She is my friend and I will do it for my friend.”
