Popular comedian and streamer Carter Efe has responded to the wave of criticism that followed his recent remarks about wanting a celebrity boxing match with Afrobeats star Wizkid, making it clear that the idea was never intended to be disrespectful.
During a live session, he addressed the growing debate online, explaining that people misunderstood his intention behind the challenge and took it too seriously.
“Everybody was just dr@gging me because I said I want to f!ght with Wizkid. F!ghting with Wizkid doesn’t mean I’m disr£specting Wizkid,” he said.
Carter Efe emphasized that celebrity boxing, in his view, is part of the broader entertainment culture rather than an act of hostility. He pointed to exhibition-style bouts involving public figures as an example of how the concept works.
“For example, Mayweather. Mayweather is f!ghting an influencer. So b0xing is just entertainment,” Carter Efe added, referencing former world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr..
The controversy began after his earlier callout to Wizkid circulated widely on social media, sparking mixed reactions from fans who questioned whether it was a serious challenge or simply content meant to stir engagement.
Carter Efe has previously been involved in Nigeria’s emerging celebrity boxing space, especially after his well-publicized bout with singer Portable, which drew significant attention online and generated viral moments.
Despite the backlash, he maintains that his comments were made in good spirit and strictly for entertainment purposes. Meanwhile, discussions continue across social platforms as fans speculate whether Wizkid will eventually respond to the challenge or ignore it entirely.
