Burnley relegates to EFL Championship

Burnley’s stay in the Premier League has come to an end following a 1-0 loss to Manchester City at Turf Moor.

The result confirmed what had been looming for weeks, as Burnley remained trapped in the bottom three alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers, whose relegation had already been sealed.b

Despite a spirited and organised showing against the title-chasing visitors, the Clarets could not find a way to change their fate.

Under the guidance of Scott Parker, the campaign never truly gained momentum. The team recorded just four wins all season, with only one coming after November.

Their last success at home dates back to October, after which a punishing seven-game losing streak left them with little chance of survival before the turn of the year.

This latest drop extends Burnley’s recent pattern of inconsistency, marking a fifth consecutive season where they have either gone up to the Premier League or fallen out of it.

With four matches still to play, attention now turns to finishing the season on a stronger note and avoiding an unwanted record. They currently sit on 20 points, just four short of their lowest-ever Premier League tally set during the 2023/24 campaign under Vincent Kompany.
