Bolaji Ogunmola clarifies allegations of her movie being given unfair advantage

Actress Bolaji Ogunmola has responded to allegations suggesting that her new  movie Ajosepo: The Gathering is being given unfair advantage in cinemas over other films currently showing.

In a video posted on Instagram on Sunday, she dismissed the claims that cinema operators were deliberately prioritising her project or sidelining other productions, insisting that scheduling decisions are driven by commercial factors and audience response.

She further explained that different cinemas assign varying screening times based on how films are performing, the level of online discussion around them, and general audience reception, stressing that favoritism is not part of the process.

“So many things has been going on and really honestly, I have been quiet because there’s no need. Let’s just focus on the goal. But I also understand that it’s an issue of public perception,”, she said.

“The way the showtimes are done is based off of how we perceive the film will do well, how people are talking about the film in the media space and how people are reviewing and reacting to the film. It has nothing to do with favoritism,”

Ogunmola also clarified confusion around the title, stating that Ajosepo: The Gathering is not a continuation of the earlier Ajosepo film but a separate story that stands on its own, even though it shares thematic links through its family-centred narrative.

This is a standalone film that can work by itself. You don’t have to see the part 1,”

She added that it was painful to see suggestions that she had acted against other filmmakers or tried to damage their work, maintaining that she has never encouraged audiences to boycott any project.

“I have not actually tried to sabotage anybody’s film,”
