Bayer Leverkusen have officially appointed Erik ten Hag as their new head coach, following the departure of Xabi Alonso, who recently took over at Real Madrid.
The Dutch manager signed a deal with the Bundesliga club that runs until June 2027, marking his return to German football after previously coaching Bayern Munich II earlier in his career.
Ten Hag brings a wealth of experience, having enjoyed a successful spell at Ajax—where he won multiple domestic titles and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019. He also managed Manchester United, where he lifted both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup before parting ways with the club in October 2024.
Leverkusen, fresh off an unbeaten domestic double in the 2023–24 season under Alonso, will be hoping Ten Hag can continue the club’s upward trajectory as they enter a new chapter under his leadership.
