Senegalese-American singer, Akon has disclosed that many musicians are not as financially comfortable as people often assume, despite their fame
He said that while artists may appear wealthy through their public lifestyles, music performers are often not the biggest earners in the business.
Speaking in an interview with Hip Hop Eye, Akon explained that those behind the scenes tend to make more money than the artistes themselves.
He added that greater financial rewards are often found in other areas of the industry such as production, songwriting, management, talent representation and legal services.
“In the music industry, the artist is the last to get paid. He is the broke one but he is the most famous. If you want to be broke and famous, be the artist,” he said.
“But if you want to make real money go to other sectors of music business, like the producer, songwriter, manager, agent and attorney. There are so many areas in the entertainment field that you can really maximise.
