Anthony Joshua could be set for a return to the ring in July, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn
Joshua has been out of action since December following a car accident that tragically claimed the lives of two of his close friends. Although he escaped with no serious injuries, uncertainty surrounded his boxing future and timeline for a comeback.
Speaking to reporters in Nottingham, Hearn disclosed that plans are being mapped out for the 36-year-old to fight again this summer.
“I’m looking at options to get him back in the ring in July. We’ll only know if that’s a real possibility when he returns to camp.”
Joshua last fought Jake Paul in Miami, and discussions had initially centered on a March return followed by a blockbuster clash with Tyson Fury in August. However, those plans have now changed.
“Originally, the plan for AJ was for him to fight in March and then fight Tyson Fury in August. That’s not happening.
“He’s not fighting Tyson Fury next. He’s going to come back, I believe, late summer, but physically he’s not yet in a position to return to camp. I’m planning, but he’s just resting and preparing.”
Hearn added that Joshua is expected to resume training camp within the next few weeks or a month.
