Actor and comedian Kenan Thompson sued by landlord

Actor and comedian Kenan Thompson is facing a lawsuit from a landlord who claims he owes more than $34,000 for allegedly breaching a lease agreement on a rental home in Los Angeles.

According to the lawsuit, the Saturday Night Live star is accused of breaking a 12-month lease on a three-bedroom property that was said to have been signed in September, with the tenancy scheduled to begin on October 1. The landlord claims Thompson agreed to pay monthly rent of $10,250 for one year, after which the lease would convert to a month-to-month arrangement.

The landlord alleges that Thompson failed to honour the lease and owes $17,425 in unpaid rent for November and December. The suit further claims that a replacement tenant could only be secured at a reduced rent, leaving Thompson responsible for a difference of $15,750 over the original lease term.

Additional claims include an $871 late fee, a $9,594 broker fee, and $1,000 in legal fees, bringing the total amount sought to $34,390 after crediting Thompson’s $10,250 security deposit.

However, sources close to Thompson dispute the allegations, saying the issue is a contractual disagreement rather than unpaid rent. According to the sources, Thompson never received the keys to the property and never stepped foot inside the home.

Thompson’s representatives have not yet responded publicly to the lawsuit.
