Tyla wins Afrobeats Artiste of the year at AMAS 2025

South African sensation Tyla has emerged as the Favourite Afrobeats Artist at the 2025 American Music Awards, adding another milestone to her fast-rising career.

The ceremony took place on Monday at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, drawing some of the biggest names in global music.

Tyla, best known for her smash hit Water, triumphed over a strong lineup of Nigerian stars including Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Asake to take home the award. Notably, Wizkid was the first artist to win this category back in 2022 following the massive success of Essence.

Meanwhile, Billie Eilish dominated the night, sweeping all seven of her nominations including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, making her the top winner of the event.

In a surprising turn, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande left empty-handed despite multiple nominations, marking two of the evening’s biggest upsets.

Veteran rapper Eminem made a major comeback, earning his first AMA wins in 15 years. He secured both Favourite Male Hip-Hop Artist and Favourite Hip-Hop Album for The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).
