A senior official of the Nigerian Football Federation has played down reports suggesting Victor Osimhen was set to quit the Super Eagles camp at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco
Speculation spread on Tuesday claiming the striker had dropped his accreditation and decided to return to Turkey after an on-field outburst during Nigeria’s last match. The reports alleged that Osimhen had declared he was done with the national team and was preparing to leave the camp.
Those claims were later dismissed following clarification from a top NFF official who spoke with FIFA- and CAF-accredited journalist Adepoju Samuel. According to the official, the situation had already been resolved internally.
Samuel shared the update on his X account, writing: “A top team official just confirmed the latest situation over yesterday’s incident. The official said everything has been sorted since last night, and we are all good. There was no discussion about Osimhen leaving the tournament. The issue has been resolved as a family.”
The tension stemmed from an incident in the 63rd minute of Nigeria’s match, when Osimhen showed visible frustration after Ademola Lookman failed to convert a chance. Lookman had earlier created two opportunities for the Napoli striker.
