The first daughter of late gospel singer Omije Ojumi, has paid an emotional tribute to her mother, describing her as a pillar of strength who remained virtuous in the family despite challenges in her marital life
Speaking during the service of songs held in honour of the late singer on Wednesday, the daughter, Jomiloju, recounted how her mother consistently showed up for her children, even during periods when their father was absent.
According to her, Omije Ojumi’s greatest desire was to raise responsible and disciplined children, determined to ensure that they did not repeat the mistakes she believed she made in her marriage.
“She was always there for us, even when our father wasn’t,” she said during her tribute.
“Her focus was to make sure we turned out responsible and did better than she did in her marital journey.”
She noted that the late singer prioritised their education, enrolling them in what she described as the best schools she could afford, all in a bid to secure their future.
In the emotional moment, the daughter made a public promise to her mother, vowing to take care of her younger brother and guide him to become the kind of responsible and prayerful son their mother always hoped he would be.
“I promised my mum that I will take care of my younger brother,” she said. “He will be the prayer warrior and responsible son she wanted him to be, not like…”
