Mason Greenwood’s protracted transfer saga is nearing its conclusion.
The Manchester United forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe, is set to join Marseille after a principle agreement was reached between the clubs.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the transfer fee is approximately €31.6m (£26.7m), consisting of €26.6m (£23.3m) upfront and €4m (£3.4m) in add-ons.
This deal marks a positive outcome for United, given Greenwood’s indefinite suspension and criminal charges in January 2022.
Despite public backlash against his signing in Marseille, the club will proceed with the transfer.
Mason Greenwood had also attracted interest from Lazio, Napoli, and Juventus, but the Marseille deal offers United a significant share of any future sale proceeds.
This outcome benefits all parties involved, enabling United to invest the nearly €27 million in new players.
