Nigerian Goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie cleared of match-fixing allegations

Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars has cleared Nigerian goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of all match-fixing and gambling allegations

The Super Eagles reserve goalkeeper was declared innocent in a statement released on Saturday by the club’s CEO, Jonathan Kassano.

Obasogie had faced accusations of match-fixing following a series of errors on the field, leading the club’s disciplinary committee to suspend him for three months pending investigation.

However, after concluding preliminary inquiries into his performances in both league and continental matches, the club found no evidence of wrongdoing. The statement explained that the incidents that sparked concern were merely technical errors within the game.

“After the preliminary investigation, the player’s defense, and a reliable statement from the Club’s General Manager, it has been determined that there is no evidence of match-fixing or gambling. The incidents that raised the concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game,” the statement read.

The club added that Obasogie has apologized for his on-field mistakes. His suspension has been lifted, and he has been fully reinstated to the team.

“In light of this, the Club has decided to reverse the previous decision to suspend the player for three months, and the player has been allowed to continue his duties with the team.”

Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars a year ago from the Ethiopian League and has been part of the squad since then.
