Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar will undergo ankle surgery “in the next few days” and will be out of action for three to four months, the club announced on Monday.
The Brazilian, who was injured on February 19 against Lille in Ligue 1, “has had several episodes of instability in the right ankle in recent years,” said the club, adding that its medical staff “recommended a ligament repair operation” which be undertaken in Doha.
Neymar was stretchered off early in the second half of PSG’s chaotic 4-3 victory over Lille on 19 February, having already scored and provided an assist.
While scans later showed that he hadn’t sustained a fracture, they did reveal a sprain.
