The executive producer of a popular Netflix show has been killed in Gaza after fighting against Hamas militants.
Matan Meir, 38, had a big role in Fauda, which centred around an Israeli spy involved in a terror plot. However, Mr Meir was killed on Saturday alongside five soldiers in a deadly explosion in Gaza.
Mr Meir went to help fight for Israel’s 551st Brigade 697th Battalion after the war broke out last month.
Fauda’s official X account confirmed the tragedy, describing the media professional as “an integral crew member” and writing cast and crew have been left “heartbroken” by the death.
The full post reads: “We are devastated to share that one of our Fauda family members, Matan Meir, was killed in action in Gaza. Matan was an integral crew member. The cast and crew are heartbroken by this tragic loss. We extend our condolences to Matan’s family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
Mr Meir was one of five IDF soldiers killed by a horror blast just outside of an underground tunnel that was viciously booby-trapped by Hamas, reports The Times of Israel. The killings happened next to a mosque in the Beit Hanoun area of the Gaza Strip which has been under fire since the October 7, massacre that saw up to 1,400 killed.
It is believed Mr Meir was the executive producer of Fauda, which has so far had four seasons since it debuted in February 2015. It won Best Drama Series and five other accolades at the Israeli Academy Awards in 2015.
