
Celebrated music producer and songwriter Quincy Jones has passed away at the age of 91
His publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed the sad news, stating that Jones di.ed peacefully on Sunday night at his Bel Air home, surrounded by family.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him,” his family said in a statement.
Quincy Jones, a pioneering figure in the music world, worked with legendary artists like Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Ray Charles.
One of the first Black executives in Hollywood, Jones’s influence spans decades, from producing Jackson’s groundbreaking ‘Thriller‘ album to arranging music for Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.
His versatile career also included composing soundtracks for iconic projects like ‘Roots‘ and ‘In the Heat of the Night‘, as well as leading his own production company, which launched TV hits like ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air‘.
Known as the “master orchestrator” by singer Lionel Richie, Jones’s career highlights include Jackson’s albums ‘Off the Wall‘, ‘Thriller‘, and ‘Bad‘, which helped elevate Jackson to global superstardom with a sound that blended disco, rock, pop, R&B, jazz, and African influences.
Tracks like ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough‘ showcase Jones’s unique approach, while his use of Eddie Van Halen’s guitar solo in ‘Beat It’ and Vincent Price’s voiceover in ‘Thriller‘ became legendary moments in music history.
