Michail Antonio’s decade-long journey with West Ham United has come to an end, as the club has opted not to renew the 35-year-old’s contract.
The Jamaican international, who has been sidelined since suffering a broken leg in a serious car accident last December, had hoped to return to playing but won’t be doing so with the Hammers.
Antonio leaves as West Ham’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League, having netted 83 goals in 323 appearances. He was also part of the squad that secured the Europa Conference League title in 2023 — the club’s first major trophy since 1980.
“Michail will always be a much-loved and respected member of the West Ham United family,” the club said. “As has been the case since December, the club will continue to support and assist him in his ongoing rehabilitation, offering him access to training, facilities and medical care if needed.”
Talks are ongoing over a potential non-playing role for Antonio at the club in the future.
“Everyone at West Ham United would like to sincerely thank Michail for his outstanding, dedicated service in a claret and blue shirt over the last ten years,” the statement added.
