Manchester City have launched their move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
City are close to agreeing terms with the England defender and have opened talks with the Eagles over a fee.
Palace want close to £40million for their skipper, who has just six months left on his deal.
Guehi would be walking away from a significant signing-on fee in the summer were he to move as a free agent.
But City are understood to have made a huge offer to the 25-year-old, vowing to beat any offer he would receive at the end of the season.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner torpedoed a summer deadline day move to Liverpool last year but recently opened the door to a sale this month.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have all registered their interest in the Palace man.
Liverpool came close to signing Guehi last summer but his £35m move to Anfield was stopped.
The 25-year-old was undergoing a medical with Liverpool on deadline day when Palace pulled the plug on the deal.
