Lagos woman sues Peller N395m for calling her ”ashewo, oloriburuku” at a public space

A Lagos-based woman, Osarobo Odigie, has filed legal action against Peller, over alleged defamation, cyber harassment, and invasion of privacy

The claim, outlined in a pre-action letter dated March 10, 2026, and signed by Bola Osineye of FA Garrick & Co., accuses Peller of making defamatory remarks about Odigie and posting a video of her online without consent.

According to the letter, the incident occurred in the early hours of January 6, 2026, at Folixxx Lounge on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State. “Our client was present at Folixxx Lounge… for the purpose of purchasing food. While standing at the counter/cashier area, our client was suddenly startled by your loud outburst directly behind her,” the lawyers said.

The legal team alleged that when Odigie stepped aside due to Peller’s loudness, he confronted her and demanded to know why she had moved. “You aggressively approached her and proceeded to instruct her to ‘shut up’. When she requested that you moderate yourself in a public space, you immediately resorted to verbal abuse, including Yoruba curses such as ‘Oloriburuku,’ ‘Omo Ale,’ and ‘Ashawo,’” the letter added.

The law firm described the remarks as “untrue, ridiculing and defamatory,” intended to publicly humiliate Odigie. They also claimed Peller recorded the encounter without her consent and shared the video across multiple platforms, including Snapchat, WhatsApp, TikTok, and Instagram.

“Owing to your substantial online presence and following as a streamer and public influencer, the video went viral almost immediately… triggering thousands of comments, many of which reiterated and amplified your defamatory remarks against her,” the letter stated.

Odige’s lawyers said the incident caused reputational harm, emotional distress, and threats to her safety. “Our client has suffered significant emotional distress and has developed genuine fears for her safety,” they wrote.

The claimant is seeking a total of N395 million in damages: N200 million for the alleged defamation, N100 million for emotional trauma and reputational harm, N75 million for cyberbullying and threats, and N20 million for legal fees and related costs.

In addition, the legal team demanded that Peller immediately remove the video from all social media platforms, cease further publication, and issue a public apology on his platforms and in two national newspapers,

The letter also instructed Peller to ensure any third-party reposts of the video are removed within seven days, warning that failure to comply would result in the commencement of legal proceedings.

The lawsuit follows the viral confrontation at the Lagos lounge on January 6. Peller had previously issued a public apology on January 9, admitting his reaction was out of character and expressing regret for his behavior during the incident.
