Lagos has been officially announced as the host city for the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), marking the seventh time the Nigerian city will welcome the prestigious event.
The announcement was made on May 13, 2025, during a formal ceremony at the African Union Commission headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
AFRIMA 2025 is scheduled to take place from November 25 to 30 and is expected to attract over 1,600 nominees, more than 1,100 production crew members, and a global audience of over 400 million viewers. The event will feature a week-long celebration of African music and culture, including the AFRIMA Music Conference and various cultural showcases.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed Lagos State’s readiness to host, citing major investments in the creative and tourism industries. “Hosting AFRIMA aligns with our vision to position Lagos as Africa’s cultural and creative capital,” he said.
Angela Martins, Director for Social Development, Culture, and Sport at the African Union Commission, also praised the city, saying Lagos embodies the spirit of AFRIMA with its vibrant youth, rhythm, and innovation.
The return of AFRIMA to Lagos is expected to boost tourism, generate jobs, and reinforce the city’s status as a cultural powerhouse in the global entertainment scene.
