Renowned music producer and executive of Coded Tunez, ID Cabasa, has disclosed the emotional moment Olamide left his record label.
In an interview with Adesope Olajide for the Afrobeats Podcast, ID Cabasa shared the story of how he first met Olamide at just 13 years old, when the young artist came to his studio to record a song with a friend.
Despite his friend’s lack of musical talent, Olamide’s 16 bars on the mic left a lasting impression on ID Cabasa.
He described Olamide as a son-like figure, and when the time came for him to leave the label, it was a painful experience.
“It wasn’t the pain of not wanting him to progress; it was the pain of seeing someone you love leave,” he said, revealing that he even shed tears during their discussion.
However, he gave Olamide his full blessings, understanding that the artist wanted to explore new opportunities.
Olamide left to start his own record label, YBNL Nation, in 2012, which has since become a home for talented artists like Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Asake, and Fireboy DML.
ID Cabasa’s emotional account denotes the close bond he shared with Olamide and the bittersweet moment of watching him spread his wings and fly solo.
