Speed Darlington has told the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), that he won’t be available to honour their second invitation slated for Monday, June 2
He says he will however be available on the 26th of June.
This comes after NAPTIP invited him following an alarming claim he made involving a minor.
The video which has now been widely condemned sparked outrage after the singer seemingly suggested he had engaged in a s8xual act with a 15-year-old.
In response, NAPTIP summoned him for questioning at their Abuja headquarters last week—an invitation he did not honour.
The agency has since rescheduled the invitation for June 2.
In a formal letter addressed to the agency and signed by Speed Darlington’s legal team, the singer described the viral clip as a misunderstood joke aimed solely at generating online buzz.
“As a law-abiding citizen raised with strong ethical values, I have never engaged in or considered any form of s8xual misconduct,” he wrote. “The Instagram video was intended purely for entertainment and not based on any actual event, past or future.”
While denying any wrongdoing, he expressed regret over the public reaction to the video and apologized for any offense caused, stating, “What was meant as humor has been taken out of context by those eager to find fault.”
The singer confirmed his willingness to cooperate with authorities and stated he would appear at NAPTIP’s office on June 26 for further clarification.
