In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Miley Cyrus shared a vulnerable moment from her career.
The 32-year-old singer revealed that after rupturing an ovarian cyst on New Year’s Eve in 2023, she considered quitting music altogether.
However, it was Lorne Michaels, a renowned Canadian film producer, who talked her out of it.
Michaels shared words of wisdom, telling Cyrus that everyone faces setbacks and that she just needed time to heal and rebuild.
“He said to me, ‘Six months. Everybody has six months to feel sorry for themselves and then we start to rebuild,’” Cyrus recalled.
Michaels’ reassurance came from experience, having heard similar sentiments from numerous artists who’ve faced their own struggles.
“You have no idea how many artists have sat in this chair and told me they were quitting music,” he told Cyrus. “Everyone does this, everyone has these traumatic experiences.”
Cyrus credits Michaels’ advice with helping her push through her doubts and continue pursuing her passion for music.
