Veteran Nigerian music icon, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has dispelled viral rumours about his d3ath, affirming that he is alive, healthy, and full of life.
In a video released on Tuesday, the legendary performer delivered a vibrant musical message in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin, firmly debunking the false reports.
“Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka,” he sang, calling out those behind the hoax.
Addressing the situation further, he said, “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written.”
The unfounded rumours, which emerged on Monday, sparked a wave of panic and condolence messages from fans on social media platforms.
Tope Olukole, his personal assistant, cleared the air during a live chat with TVC, stating, “Let’s be clear: Ebenezer Obey is alive and thriving.”
Olukole added that the legendary artist recently celebrated a milestone with his family: “He even joined them to mark his second child’s spouse’s 50th birthday. These death rumours are entirely baseless. We’re thankful he’s doing well.”
The false report comes shortly after Obey marked his 83rd birthday less than a month ago.
