Dembele wins 2025 FIFA ‘The Best’ Men’s Player Award

Ousmane Dembélé has been named the 2025 FIFA The Best Men’s Player after a remarkable season with Paris Saint Germain, capping a year in which he played a central role in both club and international competitions.

The France and Paris Saint Germain forward received the men’s award at a ceremony held in Qatar on Tuesday, while Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati was honoured with the women’s prize.

FIFA confirmed the announcement on Tuesday, December 16, citing Dembélé’s decisive influence in Paris Saint Germain’s successes across multiple competitions during the assessment period.

Dembélé was instrumental in the club’s first ever UEFA Champions League triumph, scoring eight goals and registering six assists as PSG completed a historic European campaign.

The 28 year old also played a vital role in domestic competition, helping PSG secure a treble by winning Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions.

He was named most valuable player in both the UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1 for the 2024/25 season and finished as joint top scorer in Ligue 1.

At international level, Dembélé contributed to France finishing third in the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League and was part of the squad that reached the final of the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup™.

Over the course of the season, Dembélé collected a series of individual honours, including UEFA Champions League Player of the Season, selection in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season, Ligue 1 Player of the Year, and inclusion in the UNFP Ligue 1 Team of the Year.

He also finished as runner up at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, adding to a campaign widely regarded as the most successful of his career.

The shortlist for The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award was compiled by a panel of experts based on performances between 11 August 2024 and 2 August 2025.

Voting was conducted by men’s national team coaches, national team captains, football journalists, and fans through FIFA’s official website, with each group accounting for 25 percent of the total vote.

Voters ranked their top three choices, awarding five points for first place, three points for second, and one point for third. In the event of a tie, the award would be decided by the player with the most first place votes from national team captains.

The entire voting process was overseen by independent observers to ensure transparency. Dembélé accumulated the highest total score across all voting categories, securing the award as the standout performer of the year.

He also won the Ballon d’Or in September, further underlining a season that delivered Paris Saint Germain’s first Champions League title and established him as one of the leading players in world football.
