American R&B star Chris Brown has been remanded in custody in the United Kingdom until June 13, 2025, following his arrest on serious assault charges.
The 36-year-old singer appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 16, where prosecutors accused him of launching a violent, unprovoked attack on music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub in London in February 2023. Brown allegedly struck Diaw multiple times with a bottle before continuing to punch and kick him, leaving him with significant injuries. The incident was reportedly captured on CCTV.
District Judge Joanne Hirst denied Brown’s request for bail, citing the severity of the alleged offense. The case has been transferred to Southwark Crown Court, where a plea and trial preparation hearing is scheduled for June 13.
Brown’s arrest and detention cast doubt over his upcoming “Breezy Bowl XX” tour, which was slated to kick off in Amsterdam on June 8, with additional performances planned across Germany and the UK.
In addition to the criminal proceedings, the alleged victim, Abe Diaw, has filed a civil lawsuit seeking $16 million in damages for the injuries he claims to have sustained.
This latest legal trouble adds to Brown’s history of high-profile incidents, including his 2009 felony assault conviction involving singer Rihanna.
