Champz names the artists shaping the sound of his debut EP

ising Nigerian rapper Champz, the 14-year-old son of global superstar Wizkid, has opened up about the musical inspirations shaping his breakthrough project, giving fans a clearer picture of the sound behind his fast-rising career.

In a new interview with Glitch Africa, Champz revealed that his debut EP, Champion’s Arrival, draws heavily from a blend of UK rap and Afro-fusion influences. According to him, four artists played a central role in shaping the music on the project: J Hus, Asko, Nines, and Clavish.

“These are the main inspirations for this EP,” he said, noting that their unique styles helped guide his approach to rhythm, delivery, and storytelling.

The young rapper’s sound leans firmly into Afro-swing and UK drill, genres defined by gritty flows, minimalist production, and street-rooted narratives. By citing some of the UK’s most distinctive rap voices, Champz makes it clear that he is forging a path separate from his father’s Afrobeats legacy.

His Glitch Africa appearance follows the explosive reception of Champion’s Arrival, which made history by reaching Number 1 on the Apple Music Nigeria Albums chart within five hours of release. The EP also charted in multiple countries and amassed over a million streams in its first 24 hours.

With a growing fan base, a record-breaking debut, and a clear sense of his artistic identity, Champz is positioning himself as one of the most promising young voices shaping the next wave of African and UK-influenced rap.
