Trent Alexander-Arnold will have an immediate reunion with Liverpool after the Reds were drawn to face Real Madrid at Anfield in the Champions League group stage
The England international left his boyhood club for the Bernabeu over the summer but will return to Merseyside with Los Blancos after the draw was made.
Six Premier League sides will represent England at Europe’s top table. Champions Liverpool are joined by Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle after they each finished in the top five last term. Tottenham make up the sextet following their Europa League triumph.
Holders Paris Saint-Germain will defend their title after hammering Inter Milan 5-0 in last year’s final. They’ll be joined by Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and a clutch of other European heavyweights in the 36-team field.
Each team will play eight games in the league phase, four at home and four away, with all the results going into one 36-team table. The top eight will go straight through to the last 16, with the teams finishing between 9th and 24th going into the playoff round.
