A celebratory parade in Liverpool turned tragic on May 26, 2025, when a car plowed into a crowd of fans gathered to mark Liverpool FC’s Premier League title win.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Water Street in Liverpool city center. Eyewitnesses say the driver appeared to deliberately accelerate into the crowd, striking multiple people before being stopped by bystanders.
Several individuals were injured, prompting an urgent response from emergency services, who set up temporary treatment stations near the scene. A 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area was arrested immediately and remains in police custody.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the act, calling it “appalling,” and praised the swift actions of the emergency responders.
Liverpool FC issued a statement expressing sympathy for the victims and pledged full support to authorities and those affected.
The motive behind the attack is still under investigation. Police have urged the public not to jump to conclusions while inquiries continue.
