CAF postpones WAFCON to July 2026

The Confederation of African Football has postponed the schedule for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, postponing the tournament from its earlier planned dates in March.

In a statement released on Thursday, CAF announced that the competition will now take place from July 25 to August 16, 2026.

Morocco was confirmed as the host nation in October 2024, and the tournament was initially expected to be played between March 17 and April 3.

CAF explained that the adjustment followed consultations with FIFA and other stakeholders involved in organising the event, adding that the change was necessary to ensure the smooth staging of the continental women’s football tournament.

After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 to 25 July – 16 August 2026 to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforeseen circumstances.

The football body also stated that preparations for the tournament are ongoing and expressed confidence that the competition will be successfully delivered.

Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 are underway and all the parties are confident that it will be very successful.

The decision follows concerns raised in recent weeks about the level of preparedness for the tournament, as several pre-event arrangements had not yet been finalised ahead of the original kickoff date. Issues such as confirmation of venues for knockout matches, accreditation for journalists, match officials, and technical workshops were still pending, while promotional activities for the competition had been minimal.
