Anthony Joshua asserted his class in Miami on Saturday morning, overwhelming Jake Paul and ending their heavyweight clash with a knockout in the sixth round
Paul managed to last longer than many predicted, pushing past the early stages of the fight, but the gap in strength and ring know-how soon became clear.
Joshua began tightening his grip in the fifth round, flooring the YouTuber-turned-boxer twice during a wild spell that swung the contest firmly in his favour.
The end came one round later. Joshua pressed forward and unloaded a relentless series of power shots, leaving Paul defenceless and forcing the referee to intervene.
Afterwards, the former heavyweight champion wasted no time calling out Tyson Fury, reigniting talk of a long-anticipated showdown. “Put down (your) Twitter fingers and put on some gloves and come and fight me.”
Paul later disclosed that he sustained a broken jaw during the fight. He stopped short of naming his next opponent and instead said he plans to step away from boxing for now. The loss represents only the second defeat of his professional career.
Despite the setback, Paul remains the WBA’s No. 14-ranked cruiserweight and has previously picked up notable wins. He dominated a 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a high-profile bout streamed on Netflix in November 2024 and followed that with a points victory over 39-year-old Julio Cesar Chávez Jr. in June.
