All 104 fixtures of the 2026 FIFA World Cup are expected to be completely filled, according to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, despite tickets still being on sale ahead of the tournament’s June 11 kickoff
Speaking in an interview with CNBC from President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Infantino declared that demand has already exceeded expectations.
“The demand is there. Every match is sold out.”
He revealed that within just four weeks, FIFA received about 508 million ticket requests for roughly seven million available seats. During the main sales window in January alone, applications poured in from over 200 countries.
“(We’ve) never see anything like that — incredible.”
Infantino noted that FIFA deliberately held back a portion of tickets for a final sales phase scheduled to begin in April and continue until the tournament concludes on July 19.
Addressing concerns raised by supporters over what have been described as “exorbitant” ticket prices — with resale platforms already reporting record figures — Infantino pointed to market forces.
“I think it is because it’s in America, Canada and Mexico. Everybody wants to be part of something special.
“Ticket prices have been fixed but you have, in the US in particular, something called dynamic prices, meaning the prices will go up or down.
“You are able as well to resell your tickets on official platforms, secondary markets, so the prices as well will go up.
“That’s part of the market we are in.”
The 2026 edition, which will be the first to feature 48 teams, is projected to generate more than $11 billion in revenue for FIFA. Infantino emphasized that the funds would be reinvested across football development programs in all 211 member associations.
He also projected a massive economic boost for the United States, estimating an impact of about $30 billion driven by tourism, hospitality, security, and related investments.
Beyond the expected seven million match attendees, Infantino predicted the tournament could attract between 20 and 30 million visitors while creating approximately 185,000 full-time jobs.
“It’s a big impact. I hope this impact will not just be limited to the World Cup but for the future as well.”
