Fulham star midfielder, Alex Iwobi says the Super Eagles are fully prepared for Saturday’s must-win 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Nigeria’s qualification hopes are hanging by a thread after recording just one victory in six matches.
The three-time African champions currently sit fourth in Group C with seven points, six behind leaders South Africa. Only the group winner is guaranteed a place at the World Cup, making the clash against Rwanda decisive for Nigeria’s chances.
“The mood in camp is good. Everyone is feeling positive and optimistic. We are all looking forward to the game,” Iwobi said.
“We are excited to play our first game against Rwanda. Hopefully we can prepare well and get the result we want. After that, we can think about the game against South Africa which is also very important.” he added
Rwanda, managed by Eric Chelle, will come into the match with renewed confidence as they sit above Nigeria in the standings. A win for the Amavubi would further dent the Super Eagles’ chances, while victory for Nigeria would keep qualification hopes alive ahead of their blockbuster clash against South Africa.
The match kicks off at 5 p.m. local time in Uyo.
