Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has expressed heartfelt gratitude to fans, teammates, and supporters after undergoing life-saving emergency surgery.
The 27-year-old suffered a ruptured intestine during Forest’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Leicester City, an injury that led to two major operations and a medically induced coma.
In a deeply emotional message shared on social media, Awoniyi described this season as one of the toughest periods of his career, but said the outpouring of support had given him strength.
“This season has been one of the most difficult of my career, but through it all, I have felt the love,” he wrote. “With the grace of God, I am grateful to still be here, to still be fighting, to still be smiling, and to be in good spirits.”
The Nigerian international extended special thanks to his family, friends, and fans—especially those back home in Nigeria—for their prayers and encouragement. He also praised the Nottingham Forest community for their steadfast support.
